I was told by a couple of 'Experts' and they said it is temporary, although mine lasted around 5 years. Kranks suggested getting it re faced with a stronger metal.
Can't really see why it would effect the spring, I have the origional spring on my musket and the frizzen has been case hardened twice before. It may go through the flints a little quicker but I've not really noticed in the past.

I had it glowing with 2 blowlamps and sunk it into the metal pot containing the compound. I then repeted the same process just to be sure. (I took advice from a blacksmith from the internet.) We'll see if it lasts

The problem is trying to get hold of a new frizzen I have tried everywhere including E-mailing Pedersoli who never replied, only Kranks do them and they are fairly useless with spares.

Yeah the broken spring was a separate problem - the difficulty of getting a new frizzen is one of the reasons I haven't had it hardened again.

I will monitor it for the rest of the season and then make up my mind.

Kranks told me they will be ordering some from Pedersoli in September. Italian factories shut down in August aparently.

I will order one so I have a spare so if we need some others they may do a deal.

I only sumerged the face and the back of the frizzen into the compound, the hole where the screw goes through I left protruding. The compound clings to the metal and bubbles so not so sure if the bottom was hardened.
