Lines of Communication (Forum) - BRACES
ausrobal (Gast)
| | Hello everyone,
Well I want to pitch a warning at those who may be tempted to buy braces from the sutlers stores. My addvice is not to bother.
Why - well, the black leatherette is plastic coated and the metal work is chromed steel, aside from this the leatherette on one side is pot rivetted and basically said this does not even look remotely genuine.
So in order to salavage the item I spent the two evenings adjusting with brass work from LE provo, they now look the aprt and function well, I can take pics if anyone is interested.
All the best, Robert | | | | david h (Gast)
| | Hi again Robert
Thanks for the information, i actually purchased a pair of the offending braces last year and havn't got around to altering them yet.I've been hiding the 'modern bits' under my gilet till i could get them replaced. Where did you purchase the metal work from and how did you replace the attachments? go on, show us the photo's.

| | Hi Rob
OOH BRACES OUCH!!!!!!!
They hurt like hell, i stopped wearing them 4 years ago. I also had a pair from the suttlers, they were made for an 8 footer i think, after alot of cutting and re making they weren't too bad but oh the pain in my poor shoulders. Now i just tie my overalls at the back (mine have eyelets) a few Carlings and hay presto they stay up.Anyway if you must wear them at least they are more authentic than the Mork and Mindy styles you see from time to time.
