Fair comment James.

I understand that the Rockingham event is not actually organised by the NA though of course they must play a significant role.

Hi Folks,
It has been a while and I am writing after reading through all the postings. I cannot justify fuel costs to attend the regimental this year.
So for my two pennies worth I would like to state my opinion. For the short period of time I was a member of the NA I was not unhappy, 1997-2002 (I confess I ignored politics - I am wholly uniterested in this aspect). I started with the Coldstream Regiment of Footguards, which had it's own problems internally, but which I believe have been resolved. They are looking very organised now.
What I have noted was the problem of the numbers of French in the field, which was almost always derisory.
I joined the 21st after a long and hard think about how I had seen them in the past and also location of the group and events it held, which living in Scotland is important to me/us.
Whatever the past arguments and disagreements between individuals in the NA, the fact is we as the 21st actually field very few events and for me I would be keen on having more and preferably these being located more in the Midlands/North. That is my preference only.

I am prepared to follow the rules provided these secure the future for the regiment in terms of growth in manpower and the number of events increase. However personally I think that without there being an umbrella organisation the long term future of napoleonic re-enactment is compromised.
Other units do offer more in terms of events and I am giving some serious thought to what this means for myself and my family going forward.
With Highers exams for my oldest son this year I am unlikley to attend Sewerby, Eckmuehl may be too expensive and Kent is a long way a way! In terms of taking to the field this means I may not be able to attend this year. I hope that more events can be found.
I believe that any progress in this area would make me happier.

I hope everyone is well and surviving, a tough time for us all.

Take care, Robert & Alaric

Returning to my original question as to whether we could get an invite to Rockingham castle i note that the web site has a note stating that the event has been cancelled due to lack of finance. How many more events will go the same way?

The NA are apparently now holding an event at Newstead Abbey,(between Mansfield and Nottingham), on the first May Bank Holiday. Other periods are re-locating to various places now the Rockingham event is not going ahead.
